Striptease - Serigraph
This is one of my Favorite Prints. I love the fact that the colors are always present in the leaves and it's not until they are stripped of their clorophyll do we see their undertones. However, the origional concept was that of a striptease as the trees throw down their colored garments and stand naked for the coming winter.
Luna - Mixed Media
I think my biological clock was ticking on this one.
Canker Death - Mixed Media
Canker Death is a piece about overcoming adversity or popular notions (Just because everyone believes it's true, doesn't necessarily make it so). The quote from Romeo and Juilette speaks of a flower/plant being poisonous and the canker death consuming it; that's a little visual joke as the tomato was considered poisonous by our European ancestors. But here the horned worm consumes it and thrives. Truth over-rides ignorance.
Seahorses - Serigraph
It's suppost to be screaming and gaudy. . . I wanted to juxtapose the docile subject with obnoxious colors and weights. In the origional, the green "plant" and the "ghost" sea horses glow in the dark.
Honesty - Mixed Media
The money plant is also known by it's folk name Honesty.
The Cuckoo - Serigraph
The cuckoo is a parasidic bird. It lays it's eggs in other birds nests. The chick hatches earlier then the other eggs typically, then it pushes out the other eggs and chicks so it is the only one fed. It lays it's eggs in nests where they will blend in with the other eggs. This egg is obviously a bad match. The piece is about a bad relationship that I survived. It is about learning from past mistakes and moving on. I see this egg, I know what it has within, and I will remove it before it contaminates my person, my safety, my nest. . .
Alice in Wonderland Caterpiller - Print
This was a crazy quilt conceptual piece. Our assignment was to have four concentric circles, a checkerboard pattern that did something different or interesting, pretzel shapes, and four parts of a holstein cow. See if you can spot them.
